Real-time assessment of radionuclide deposition by PARK.

The program system for the assessment of radiological consequences (PARK) evaluates measurement data of the German integrated measurement and information system (IMIS) to analyse and predict the impact of environmental contamination after atmospheric radionuclide releases. The assessment of radionuclide deposition on soil and on different types of plants is one important step in analysing measurement data. Depending on the accident phase, the type of the available data set and correspondingly the quality of the model result, is different. In the first phase the PARK deposition model is based on data for gamma dose rates, air concentrations of gamma emitting radionuclides and the amount of precipitation at 23 (planned 41) stations of the German weather service (DWD). Sources of uncertainties of the results for these stations and about 2000 additional stations, where only the gamma dose rate is known, are discussed for different scenarios. As soon as data of in situ γ spectrometry are available the deposition model results will be improved. After the passage of the radioactive cloud, an adaptation algorithm is performed to correct model deposition results. Further improved results can be expected if additional precipitation measurements at the stations of the Federal Office for Civil Defence (BZS) are available.
