Conclusions and perspectives.
In: Hydrometeorological Extreme Events and Public Health. 2022. 99-108 (Hydrometeorological Extreme Events and Public Health)
Climate change mitigation would limit or reduce the risks from hydrometeorological extreme events, by reducing the risk of droughts and the risks of flooding, e.g., from sea-level rise related to the melting of glaciers and ice sheets and to expansion of sea water as it warms. Even if climate change is being limited through effective mitigation measures, adaptation to the changes already occurring now and in the nearer future will have to be implemented in parallel. To address the described climate, environment and health challenges, transdisciplinary and participatory research, focusing on the most vulnerable, is needed to develop solutions and to investigate pathways to implementation. One example of a wide community-building aiming to facilitate interactions within the research community and users in various areas of security research is the Community of Users for Safe, Secure and Resilient Societies launched by the European Commission in 2014.
