In Germany, around a quarter of the population has an immigration history. Especially in the area of prevention and care of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as type 2 diabetes, there is an increased risk in this population group. The reasons for this include socioeconomic disadvantages, language barriers, and culturally influenced understanding of health and illness. Language barriers can have a negative impact on diagnosis, treatment, and care. To counteract this, the national Diabetes Information Portal diabinfo.de provides neutral, evidence-based, and easy-to-understandable health information not only in German, but also in English, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, and Ukrainian. Editorial content is also available in Easy Language and Sign Language. The portal offers extensive multilingual content on the prevention of type 2 diabetes, other NCDs such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases as well as on all forms of diabetes mellitus and living with diabetes. These include articles, explanatory videos, infographics, risk tests, and download materials such as checklists, emergency documents, or training plans. The aim of diabinfo.de is to provide reliable and easy-to-understand health information. The online information portal addresses people at increased risk of type 2 diabetes and other NCDs, as well as affected individuals and their relatives. The Information for Professionals subportal contains materials to support communication between patients and healthcare professionals.
