The possibilities of ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) emission spectroscopy for the quantitative determination of trace elements in bio-medical (tissues, body-fluids) and in environmental samples (plants, soils, sludges) are discussed in alphabetical order of the elements by means of practical examples. In particular, possible matrix influences, physical interferences (overlapping), choice of the device parameters and comparison with other analytical methods are described.
