In Germany, too, advancing climate change is bringing with it more frequent and violent extreme weather events. This is already resulting in an increase in cases in emergency care and increased hospital admissions due to, among other things, heat-related cardiovascular and respiratory diseases as well as diabetes, kidney and infectious diseases. It is therefore already necessary for hospitals to adapt to the consequences of climate change in order to protect patients and employees from heat-related health damage through binding concepts. In order for healthcare institutions to take responsibility for their own ecological footprint, it is important to create awareness of energy efficiency and resource conservation in hospitals.
