Correction to: Naturehttps://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-023-06878-9 Published online 31 January 2024 In the originally published version of this article, the blank values in Extended Data Fig. 2a,b correspond to background fluorescence measurements of a stable commercial resazurin solution (AquaBluer Cell Viability Assay Solution, Multi-Target Pharmaceuticals, cat. no. 6015), diluted in complete culture medium. The values reported in the dataset are rounded versions of the direct fluorescence readouts obtained from a SpectraMax plate reader during each experiment, rounded to the nearest 50 fluorescence units. The subsequent experiments with a higher background value were acquired using a self-made resazurin solution, as indicated in the materials and methods, and recorded on the SPARK-Tecan plate reader. The blanks were defined as the average of three wells without rounding. Following identification of the issue, we reanalysed the data to evaluate the potential impact of the blank values on our results, employing two distinct methodologies. First, we recalculated all values using a blank set to zero (see Figs. 1 and 2 in Supplementary Information), corresponding to 0% viability. Secondly, we normalised the data more stringently by defining the lowest measured condition — wild-type cells treated with 1 µM RSL3 or 10 µM FIN56 — as zero percent viability (see Figs. 3 and 4 in Supplementary Information). In both cases, the resulting plots fundamentally showed the same effects. These corrections do not affect the experiments and the study conclusions. Supplementary information is available in the online version of this amendment.
